‘Gangs of Wasseypur’, considered as a new wave of cinema in Bollywood, has brought double joy for its cast and crew. The sequel to the movie, released on Wednesday, August 8, might have not garnered as much as its prequel, yet is an out-an-out box-office hit.

Gangs of Wasseypur (GoW), made in a budget of Rs 18.40 crore (i.e. part 1 & 2 made in Rs 9.20 crore each), is one such movie which earned good response from both- critics as well as audiences. Where the movie’s first part, released on July 22, grossed Rs 27.62 crore; i.e. triple its production cost , on the other hand, its sequel, added more cream to the cake by earning Rs 16.50 crore in just six days.

In addition, with a long weekend ahead, Gangs of Wasseypur – 2 may see minting more money. Before hitting the theatres, GoW was first screened at the Cannes film festival, early this year. While the movie released in theatres was screened in two parts, the one showed during Cannes was the original five-hour long version.

Gangs of Wasseypur, co-written and produced by Anurag Kashyap, revolves around politics, crime and vengeance. The movie has a huge star cast consisting of ace actors like Manoj Bajpai, Piyush Mishra, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Richa Chadda among many others.
