Parliament paralysed for third consecutive day; BJP continues to demand PM’s resignation

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, who was all set to make a rebuttal of the charges related to allocation of coal blocks, once again witnessed a rebound from opposition today, resulting in the adjournment of Parliament for the third consecutive day.

Followed by a raucous call from Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) in regards to Coalgate scam of Rs 1.86 lakh crore, the Lok Sabha was today adjourned till 2 p.m. However, it is interesting to note that while political parties are busy protesting against the losses caused due to coal block allocations, they have ignored the losses incurred due to adjournment of Parliamentary sessions for the last two days. This has cost the country Rs 2 crore, i.e. Rs 25 lakh per hour.

According to reports, while Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh was intending to turn the tables on opposition by speaking on the charges against him and his party, BJP insisted that it won’t allow Parliament to resume till Singh accepts the charges and quits as India’s chief. In his speech in Lok Sabha today, Singh was to explain how the estimated loss of Rs 1.85 lakh crore by the CAG in the coal blocks allocation 'was ‘misleading’.

Manmohan Singh was likely to point out that state governments of Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan and Jharkhand (under the rule of the BJP and its allies), in addition to West Bengal (during the Left Front rule) “had given in writing that there should not be an auction of the coal blocks.”
