A ‘mute’ Ranbir Kapoor, an
‘autistic’ Priyanka Chopra and a ‘lover-turned-friend’ Ileana D'Cruz,
define the sweetness of Anurag Basu’s romantic comedy Barfi!. The film
performed explicitly well at the box-office and gathered over Rs 60
crore in its first week.
Anurag Basu’s latest release is a moving tale of being happy no
matter what and selfless love. The movie is a story of a deaf-mute boy
Barfi (Ranbir Kapoor), his love interest Shruti (Ileana D’Cruz) and his
other love interest Jhilmil (Priyanka Chopra).
The movie starts at present time somewhere in Darjeeling and takes the audience through a flash back, where Barfi encounters love, betrayal, crime, death and life.
With Barfi!, where Ranbir Kapoor has given yet another outstanding performance, the autistic character of Jhilmil Chatterjee played by Priyanka Chopra was also convincing. Ileana D’Cruz too justifies her character and is the voice of the movie.
Barfi, released on Friday September 14, 2012, saw an overwhelming response from both critics and movie goers. This romantic comedy has not only broken the first week records of the Bollywood’s last release Raaz 3, but has also affected the business of the Bhatt movie.
Anurag Basu’s Barfi!, which was made in a budget of Rs 30 crore, was released on 300 single screens and 1,300 screens in multiplexes. The Ranbir Kapoor-starrer grossed as much as Rs 63.25 crore (net) and surpassed the first week box-office collections of the actor’s last release Rockstar.
However, with Kareena Kapoor’s much awaited Heroine releasing today, one needs to see if Barfi! sustains its hold on the box-office in its second week.
